Camden Roadshow Event 04.10.2014

28-10-2014

On the 4th of October the London BMX team held a roadshow event at Harrington Square Gardens.

The purpose of the event was to showcase that there is demand for BMX in Camden which would enable us to build a track and create a club for Camden to join the other 13 clubs that we have helped create already.

The weather threatened to spoil our day but after some rain in the early afternoon, the sun was shining and families started showing up. With a brand new BMX bike up for grabs for the winner it was all to play for on the pump track.

After many changes on the leaderboard, the winner was announced to be Damar Thomas with a winning time of just over 17 seconds. 2 council members were present as the competition took place and also got involved with the prize presentations.

We had people of different ages from a 62 year old foster carer who hadn't been on a bike in 35 years but managed to have a go,  to a 6 year old boy who was so good he came third. According to Paulo (London BMX Project Officer) "It reinforces the fact that the club using the square bring many different type of people that would help to look after the space

Overall the event was a success and was a delight for the young people that managed to attend despite the weather and hopefully there soon will be a club in Camden for all these people to ride every week. We would also like to  thank the 9 volunteers that were on hand to help us.
