DEAF-friendly BMX Taster Sessions by Access Sport and NDCS!

17-04-2015

Over the past 2 weeks Access Sport teamed up with the National Deaf Children’s Society to provide deaf friendly BMX taster sessions at Hayes Hawks and Hammersmith  BMX Club on the 9th and 16th of April, respectively.

The aim of these sessions was to introduce and engage young deaf people in BMX. Most of whom might otherwise not have any opportunities to participate or if they do it's not inclusive and they end up discouraged. These sessions were completely inclusive and those who can’t hear at all were catered for, as a BSL interpreter was present on both days. Friends families without any hearing impairment were also welcome and got involved with the sun shining.

The long term view is to get those who attend taster sessions to join the BMX clubs and start taking part in the weekly sessions and hopefully these two sessions will have kicked that off.
