Floodlight race series goes to VeloPark
20-11-2014
Round 2 of the Floodlight Series took place last Saturday (15th of November) at the BMX track at VeloPark. It was a lively affair as the numbers were more than those of the previous race at Peckham.
Proceedings kicked off at 3 pm with the novice riders getting an hour’s coaching by British Cycling coach, Nat. This was then followed by practice sessions and registrations. The rain did not damper the spirits of the competitors and volunteers as everyone got ready for the competition to begin.
Although the racing didn’t start at the scheduled time due to various factors such as the registration taking longer than expected, there was a lot of cheer from the spectators packed inside the BMX track as parents encouraged and motivated their children.
The numbers were so large that we had over 70 motos to go through before the semis and finals. This reflects the progress and growth the sport is making to be able to engage this many people of different ages to compete in the sport. The event also fulfilled its aims of giving novice riders a taste of BMX riding and giving the experienced riders a chance to keep racing through the winter.
The race results and series standing will be updated and posted here http://www.londonbmx.co.uk/competitions/floodlight-race-series/
It’s all to play for at the last race of the series at Merton Saints BMX on the 29th of November. Pre registration is now open here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VtLD9TlmeW7IJz9FWfS2XRedeXIx0cbjsQyNGE8K4y8/viewform
Special thank you to the Lee Valley staff and all the volunteers that helped the event be a success, especially the Hackney and Hayes Hawks BMX club volunteers.
