Inclusive BMX Schools Event
11-05-2015
London BMX teamed up with the Ignite programme, a fellow Access Sport project, to put on Access Sport's first Inclusive BMX Schools Event. It was held at Burgess Park BMX Track on Friday 6th March 2015.
Four schools attended: Spa, Morpeth, Brent Knoll, and Drumbeat School, bringing approximately 50 of their young disabled students. Even though it was the first inclusive BMX event London BMX had run, it was very successful, with all the students and teachers enjoying a day of BMX activities.
The day was divided up into a circuit:
-With Nathaniel and Carlos, our coaches, running exciting racing sessions on the BMX track
Racing on the track
-Adam running lots of fun BMX games on the flatground, where they can focus on controlling the bike.
-And although it was a BMX event, Roger Lilleystone of East London Hockey, ran hockey tasters session on the side to provide a variety of fun opportunities
Roger runs the hockey taster sessions
It was a fantastic day, with all the teachers commenting on how it was a great opportunity for their students to ride on a track this size, who would not have had this experience if such an event wasn't held.
Drumbeat School celebrate the end of the day with the Access Sport team
We hope to run another event like this and if you would like your school to be involved in it, please contact Adam Thomas
